Cellular network localization
Description of the cellular or NB-IoT network localization
When the tracker communicates over the cellular network it will be connected to a single cell tower. Therefore the message is only received by that specific cell tower. The tracker itself knows the ID of the cell tower where it is connected to. An estimation of the tracker location can be resolved using the platform, which is aware of the locations of all cell towers. However, because there is only one cell tower, no triangulation can be performed. The distance between the tracker and connected cell tower can be large. As a result, the accuracy of cellular network localization is low (order of magnitude: 100m to kilometers). The tracker sends a small message to the cloud that forces the tracker to connect to the network cell tower. In contrary to Sigfox network messages, this message is almost always live over the cellular or NB-IoT network.
It is possible to visualize the coverage maps of the providers on the Sensolus map as a geolayer.
